#380 Medium [1/4]: The Medium is the message

Medium is an online publishing platform that is a hybrid of blogging and paid for content. This short series will focus on the blogging element.

Medium was created by one of Twitter’s co-founders as a way to publish writing longer than Twitter’s (then) 140-character maximum. You may think that you’ve seen Medium before (think Tumblr, Reddit, Blogger) but there are some great features that I will explore in future posts that can be used in a teaching, learning and assessment context particularly for collaboration.

Getting started with Medium is easy. All you need to do is go to medium.com, click Get started and sign up with either Google or Facebook. Pick at least 3 topics that you are interested in, and click Start reading. And that’s it you’re in.

Take a look around (it can seem a bit overwhelming at first glance) and in the next post in this series we will look at creating your first post on Medium (#391 Medium [2/4]: Create your first post with Medium).
