I find following a hashtag (#) is a lot easier using Tweetdeck. It also has the added bonus that you can add more than one column to follow more than one hashtag. Additionally, you can interact with a Tweet in the same way as you would in Twitter, so you can Like, Retweet or Reply directly from Tweetdeck.
